Dr Deepak Chellappa completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Griffith University in Queensland before spending five years working as a general dentist — developing a deep interest in the diagnosis and management of complex dental pain and pulpal disease. Driven by a commitment to offering the highest standard of care for the most challenging endodontic cases, he pursued specialist training at the University of Otago in New Zealand, one of the most respected endodontic programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr Chellappa was awarded a doctoral scholarship at the University of Otago, where he completed his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics in 2019. During his training and since graduating, he has published multiple peer-reviewed papers in the endodontic literature, contributing to the evidence base that underpins modern specialist practice. He continues to teach and lecture to the broader dental community through CPD programmes, bringing his colleagues up to date with advances in technology, technique, and clinical decision-making.
At Southwest Endodontic Centre, Dr Chellappa works across both the Liverpool and Wollongong practices, managing the full scope of specialist endodontic care — from complex root canal treatment and retreatment to microsurgical apicoectomy and dental trauma. He is committed to clear communication, honest prognosis, and same-day reporting to referring dentists. His approach is evidence-based and his recommendations are always made in the best interests of the patient.
